You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

Someone said that it only took a couple of decades for movies to go from silent to unspeakable. Swearing in movies and on tv has become so common, most people, including many Christians, don’t even hear it anymore. One movie holds the notorious record for swear words -715 – that’s 4.7 per minute. Now listen to what the Creator God of the universe says in Deuteronomy 5:11: “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.” It shouldn’t surprise those of us who love the name of Jesus, the name that is above all names, that the world will do all it can to denigrate that great name. We who love Him and have been transformed by His love and grace, are called to bring glory to Him as we use His name in praise, in worship, in prayer. Take time today to lift up the name of Jesus. The world will continue to misuse His name – and the day will come when their guilt will condemn them. As we lift up the name of Jesus we will sense His pleasure and give Him glory.
These have been words from the heart.
