Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.

Health in Body

According to the government of Canada website, in general, Canada is a healthy nation. Over the past several decades the overall mortality rate and life expectancy have improved considerably, and in general, Canada compares well with the other developed nations. Nevertheless, Canada continues to face significant public health challenges in preventing chronic diseases. Major chronic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes are the cause of 65% of all deaths in Canada each year.

God loves you. We know that and once that settles in our hearts. It is so encouraging to know that God cares so deeply about us – and has done everything necessary to ensure that we are redeemed and our hearts are right with him. But did you know he is also concerned about your physical health? 3 John 1:2 says “Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.” When I first read this verse, I read it backwards. I thought John was saying “I hope you are as healthy in spirit as you are in body?” That’s what we would expect – God cares deeply about our spiritual condition. But that isn’t what the verse says. John writes “I hope that you are as healthy in body as your in spirit.” God really cares about your physical condition. Just as you can trust your spiritual life to Him, so you can entrust your physical life as well. We read so often in the Gospels that Jesus would heal someone and then forgive their sins. God deeply loves you – your soul and your body. Remember that today.

These have been words from the heart.
