Words from the Heart for Friday November 16th, 2018

See, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth, I tell you of them.

Isaiah 42:9 (NRSV)

New Things

This verse is a real fit for the season of “spring” following a hard winter of snow and cold. However, it’s message is good for all seasons. The Lord has plans. Things have come to completion. New things are about to break forth like buds on the empty branches in the springtime. What we’ve seen in the natural we can also expect in the spiritual realm. The Lord delights to share His announcements with us.

Winnipeg’s highest peak is a former garbage dump, and it has come to be known by locals as Garbage Hill. A few weeks ago a huge Garbage Hill sign mysteriously appeared near the top, large enough that no one could miss it – it looked a lot like the famous Hollywood sign. It was taken down almost as soon as it was put up, but Winnipegers loved it, and there is a continued push for a permanent Garbage Hill sign to be erected in its place.

God has quite a plan for the future. If you read the last three chapters of Revelation, you find an uncanny resemblance to the first three chapters of Genesis. The perfect world that the Lord created, the world that the Creator looked at and declared very good, was destroyed by sin. But God has a plan to redeem all that was lost. The prophet Isaiah 42:9 says this: “See, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth, I tell you of them.” God has never kept His plan secret. Over and over again He has sent prophets to let His people know what He has planned for the future. The Bible is the record of His revelation, and knowing what God has planned for the future gives us hope. It is the hope that the world lacks, and longs to know. God is making all things new. Fate is not in control of our lives. God will work out His plan for His people and nothing can thwart it. He declared the world into being and He declares the new things as well.

These have been words from the heart.
