You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

Isaiah 26:3 NIV

Steadfast Mind

According to the Government of Canada website, Canada is recruiting the world’s best minds to push the boundaries of research and contribute to a better quality of life for all Canadians. It says “To build a country that is stronger, more innovative and better connected, we must invest in top research talent. Canada is increasingly becoming the destination of choice for some of the world’s leading researchers and scholars. They build on Canada’s talent and bring new ideas that help create modern industries and jobs.”

Have you noticed that your mind tends to wander a little bit. I’m sure you noticed that back in school as you sat at your desk and looked out the window to the world outside, longing to head out and play. Even those with the most steadfast mind, the one who could concentrate the most on what the teacher was saying, found his or her mind wandering to the bigger world. As we age, it becomes more important to have a mind that focuses. When we are in a meeting, or working on a project, we need to focus on what is happening or what we are doing. The Hebrew prophet speaks to the importance of this when he says this in Isaiah 26:3: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” In our relationship with the Lord, we need to be single minded – focusing on Him alone. When we do, we have the promise that He will provide His peace. It seems to me that we lose our peace with God when we take our focus off Him and put it back on the world. Focus on Him alone today.
