For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:8-10 NIV

Listen to Words from the Heart

According to a 2023 Hills Strategies Research report, 183,200 Canadians are artists (who spend more time at their art than at any other occupation). This represents almost 1% of the overall Canadian labour force. That means the number of artists is greater than the labour force in automotive manufacturing and the utilities sector. Out of 183,200 artists, 9% identify as artisans and craftspeople. On average, artisans and craftspeople make $20,300 per year… 52% lower than the average of all Canadian workers.

I love wandering through fairs and markets – amazed at what crafters create. Their handiwork is amazing, and the variety is always surprising. Creative people add so much to our lives – colour, beauty, warmth. If human beings have the ability to create, imagine how much more the Creator of all does. After all, everything we see in this world was first birthed in the mind of God and then spoken into being. The Bible tells us what God considers to be the apex of His handiwork. Ephesians 2:8-10 says “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” You are the height of God’s creative genius – you are the greatest of all His creation. You are God’s handiwork. He continues to mold you into the man or woman of God that He desires you to be. As His handiwork, you bear His creative genius. Live your life today as a new creation – loving others in Jesus’ name.

These have been words from the heart.
