While Samuel was sacrificing the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to engage Israel in battle. But that day the Lord thundered with loud thunder against the Philistines and threw them into such a panic that they were routed before the Israelites.
1 Samuel 7:10 (NIV)
God Steps In
Canada has stepped in to help end the Ebola crisis. The deadly hemorrhagic fever killed 11,315 people (more than 2,500 of them in Guinea), and caused a global health crisis in 2014 and 2015, continues to be a challenge. Here in Canada, scientists have developed an Ebola vaccine referred to as VSV-EBOV during clinical trials. 4,000 people were given the experimental Canadian-made vaccine as part of a trial. Unfortunately, many who were offered the vaccine turned it down because they were afraid it would make them ill.
Life can sometimes be overwhelming. We have so many things on the go we feel like we are at the end of our ability to cope. The people of Israel felt like that sometimes. It seems that their history has always been one of their enemies wanting to wipe them off the face of the earth. This was the case in 1 Samuel 7 when we see Samuel sacrificing the burnt offering. The Philistines took the opportunity to attack Israel right at that moment. This is how 1 Samuel 7:10 describes it: “While Samuel was sacrificing the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to engage Israel in battle. But that day the Lord thundered with loud thunder against the Philistines and threw them into such a panic that they were routed before the Israelites.” The Philistines had made a serious flaw in their plans. They thought that it was a good thing to attack while the Israelites were worshipping. But God was watching and He stepped in at just the right moment. He will in your life too.
