If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9 (NIV)

Saved

Preservationists’ efforts to save Niagara Falls from developers were rewarded on April 30, 1885, when New York Governor David B. Hill signed legislation creating the Niagara Reservation, New York’s first state park. New York State began to purchase land from developers. In the same year, the province of Ontario established the Queen Victoria Niagara Falls Park for the same purpose. On the Canadian side, the Niagara Parks Commission governs land usage along the entire course of the Niagara River, from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario.

Salvation is a free gift, but not cheap. It cost Jesus everything. All that was necessary for us to receive eternal life, to have our sins forgiven and removed, was paid for on Calvary. We certainly don’t deserve to be set free from our guilt and shame, and nothing we can do will earn it. But just as we must reach out to receive any gift, so we must reach out to receive this gift. How do we do that? Romans 10:9 says “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” When the Gospel is shared with us, the Holy Spirit applies the good news to our hearts and minds. But He doesn’t do this so we can keep it to ourselves. He calls us to let the world know the difference Jesus has made in us. The next verse goes on to say, “for it is with your heart that you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Have you trusted Jesus as your Saviour? Make sure you tell others.

These have been words from the heart.
