Words from the Heart for Friday June 4th, 2021
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
Genesis 1:28 (NIV)
God Blessed Them
According to the Canadian government website, “Canada is blessed with a vast wealth of natural resources, which contributes significantly to our national economy. Resource industries play a critical role in delivering jobs, growth and prosperity for Canadians.” In 2019, natural resources directly and indirectly accounted for 16.9% of Canada’s national GDP. That same year natural resources directly and indirectly accounted for 1.9 million jobs in our country. Natural resource companies invested $86 billion, representing 32% of total non-residential capital investment in Canada.
Throughout the Bible we see commands that God gives to His people. The first one in the Bible is an interesting one and is found in Genesis 1:28: God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Right from the beginning, even before sin entered into the world God gave Adam and Eve a high calling – to populate the entire planet. When Jesus lived there were about 170 million people on the planet. Today there are over 7 billion. God built into human beings the desire to perpetuate the race. But there is more. We are to care for this planet and all that live on it. God has provided all we need to maintain and grow life, from human life on down. When we care for the planet and all that live in it and on it, we are caring for ourselves as well. It is a weighty responsibility God has given us. Christians should be leading the way in the care for God’s creation.
These have been words from the heart.
