To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom…
1 Corinthians 12:8a (NIV)
RBC recently shared some wisdom about retirement, useful for Canadians of all ages. More than half of Canadians think they know their retirement date, but only 39% of Canadians actually retired on the date they thought they would. One third of pre-retirement Canadians said they expect to become snowbirds and spend the winters in warmer climates. Only 18% actually do. Half of pre-retired Canadians said they planned to work after retiring. Only 11% of Canadians actually do work, either full-time or part-time after retiring.
Wise people seek the advice of others when facing a challenging decision. Proverbs teaches that in the multitude of counselors there is safety. This is a Kingdom of God principle, and getting advice from a mature, Biblically knowledgeable believer is wise. Fortunately, the Lord knows how important such wisdom is, and so He gives the gift of wisdom to the Body of Christ. In his list of manifestation gifts in 1 Corinthians 12, in verse 8 Paul writes this: “To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom…” Those with this gift speak wisdom into the fellowship of believers. The followers of Jesus need to listen to what that person is saying. And if this is your gift, you need to spend as much time as you can in the study of God’s Word and in prayer. It is in these spiritual disciplines that the Lord will speak into your heart and mind. The Body of Christ needs you to be a man or woman of God’s Word, allowing the Holy Spirit to cleanse your heart so that your flesh doesn’t get in the way of you hearing from the Lord the wisdom you and others will need from Him.
