Words from the Heart for Friday June 21st, 2019
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.
Psalm 84:11-12 (NIV)
A Sun and Shield
Residents of Inuvik, in the Northwest Territories are having midnight barbecues and going fishing and tanning at 3 a.m. They’re just celebrating and soaking up the 24/7 sunlight shining down on them for 56 consecutive days. Inuvik is part of a small region around the globe north of the Arctic Circle currently experiencing a phenomenon known as “midnight sun,” when the sun remains visible at midnight or later local time. The sun rises around 2:30 am around May 24 and the next sunset won’t be until July 20. Even at night the sun hovers just above the horizon.
If you have received by faith Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour and Lord, you are experiencing the blessings of God. The Bible speaks of this in Psalm 84:11-12: “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.” The follower of Christ is aware of the blessings that come to those who know the Lord. It begins with His indwelling presence that empowers us to walk in victory and live a life that honours the Lord. He pours out the blessing of forgiveness and adds to it strength and purity, cleansing and provision. When we pray we can expect that He will hear and answer those prayers. What a wonderful promise God gives us here – no good thing does He withhold. Like the sun, the Lord warms our hearts and provides all we need for life. Like a shield, He protects us from spiritual harm. What blessings are you experiencing from the Lord right now?
These have been words from the heart.
