One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: “Power belongs to you, God, and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”; and, “You reward everyone according to what they have done.”
Psalm 62:11-12 (NIV)
There are few things in this life that you can count on to never change. But I can guarantee you one thing. Head out to the western coast of Vancouver Island in mid-March without fail you will be able to catch a glimpse of about 20,000 Gray Whales swimming north towards summer feeding grounds in the Bering Sea. They’ll cover a 16,000 to 22,500 km round trip, with their spring journey bringing them right to the Vancouver coast. Some whales can be spotted from shore, and boat tours are readily available.
There are two aspects of God’s multi-faceted nature that give us great hope and assurance when life isn’t easy – His power and His unfailing love. You will need the assurance and the experience of both. The Psalmist writes this in Psalm 62:11-12: “One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: ‘Power belongs to you, God, and with you, Lord, is unfailing love’; and, ‘You reward everyone according to what they have done.’” Let’s take a couple of minutes to consider the implications of these two aspects of God’s nature. This is the God who spoke all things into being. This is the God whose voice shakes the world. This is the God who defeats every enemy. There is nothing our God cannot do. That can be a rather scary thought if this God was malevolent. But He is not. The second aspect of His nature is that He is unfailing love. So His power will always be used for our good. You can count on that. What do you need your loving God to do for you today? He loves you and has the power to do it.
These have been words from the heart.
