The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.
Proverbs 11:1 (NIV)
False Balance
Honesty isn’t just the best policy, it’s now the law. In November 2014, Canada’s Supreme Court ruled with respect to contract performance. In a unanimous decision the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that there is a common law duty to act honestly in the performance of contractual obligations. The Supreme Court did state that the good faith was an organizing principle of the common law of contract from which other more specific contract rules could follow (including this newly recognized duty to act honestly).

I remember singing a song when I was a child in Sunday School whose lyrics said:
O be careful little hands what you do
O be careful little hands what you do
For the Father up above
Is looking down in love
So, be careful little hands what you do
God cares deeply how we live our lives and I thought of that verse of that song when I read Proverbs 11:1: “The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.” God cares about how we treat others, in every part of our lives. In this case, it is all about our business dealings with others. Of all people, Christians are called to complete honesty in how we treat others. When we make a promise, we must keep it. It takes a long time to build trust, and so we must be consistent in how we treat others. Our goal in all things must be to bring honour to the Lord, who doesn’t miss a thing. What a blessing to find favour with our God, and Solomon tells us that when we act honestly and with integrity, we experience God’s favour. What a blessing.
These have been words from the heart.
