Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

Dwell

In 2016, the most common dwelling type in Canada was still the single-detached house, representing 53.6%, or 7.5 million of the 14.1 million occupied private dwellings in Canada. As for the remaining proportion, 18.0% of dwellings were in apartment buildings that have fewer than five stories, 9.9% were in apartment buildings that have five or more stories, 5.6% were apartments in a duplex and 12.9% were other types of dwellings. The share of dwellings that were single-detached houses was down slightly from 2011.

We live in a day when we can attend a worship service in some churches and not hear anything from God’s Word. My father-in-law told me about a colleague who spoke to him on a Monday morning telling him how wonderful the series his pastor was doing on the writings of Shakespeare. The Lord knew that this kind of thing would happen. The Bible gives many wonderful promises of God’s faithfulness and presence, but it also calls God’s people to be different, and points to the uniqueness of Jesus Christ as the only way to the Father. These things can be challenging and for many they would rather ignore them than deal with them. The Bible doesn’t let us get away with this. Paul writes this in Colossians 3:16: “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” The fellowship of God’s people is marked by the message of Christ. The foundation of fellowship is Jesus and His word. They must dwell among us richly.

These have been words from the heart.
