…and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Ephesians 4:24 (NRSV)

Clothe Yourself

It is wonderful to be saved and to have our new life in Christ. Not only was mankind originally created in God’s own image, our new creation is made in His likeness as well. We really are brand new creatures. We have a new life which we can live to please Him. Stop and list at least three things that are the most important reasons why you appreciate your salvation as a gift from your God.

According to the Canadian Encyclopedia, “The colonization of eastern Canada began with the French in the 17th century. For some years, these settlers depended for clothing on what they brought with them. New garb was expensive and the only clothing available was ready-made garments made locally from imported cloth or, sometimes, from dressed skins. Weaving did not become widespread in the new settlement until early in the 18th century; some local manufacture of fashionable shoes and hats had begun by the late 17th century.”

It used to be said that clothes make the man. In other words, you can tell the wealth and status of a person by the clothes they wear. These days, some people mark their status by the designer label on their clothes. The Bible calls the follower of Jesus to wear the right clothes, but it has nothing to do with the right label on the shirt. Ephesians 4:24 says, “…and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” When Jesus takes hold of our hearts, everything changes, from the inside out. It begins with the heart, transformed by God’s grace and now the residence of the Holy Spirit. But, like clothes, the transformation covers every part of us. We become more and more like Jesus, and His righteousness is obvious in how we think and act. How does your new nature look to others? Do they see the transformation that Jesus has made in you? As you clothe yourself in His righteousness, His presence in your life will become obvious to all, including those who know you best.
