May he rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.
Psalm 72:8 (NIV)
Sea to Sea
The territorial sea is an area of the sea which has an outer limit extending 12 nautical miles measured seaward from the baselines. The coastal state exercises sovereignty in this area which extends to the airspace, sea-bed and sub-soil; in this respect, the territorial sea is akin to a state’s land territory. Ships of all states enjoy the right of innocent passage through the territorial sea. Canada has exercised jurisdiction over the territorial sea on its east and west coasts out to 12 nautical miles since 1970.

God is the Creator of all things. The Bible is very clear that everything we see around us in nature has been spoken into being by God, who is all-powerful. The entire universe was crafted in His amazing mind and then brought into being. There was careful design in it all, from the macro of the whole universe to the micro of the DNA of each and every individual human being. Since He is the Creator, everything comes under His authority. No wonder the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 72:8: “May he rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.” When Canada’s Fathers of Confederation were looking for a term to describe Canada, they chose this verse, which in the King James Version uses the word dominion, and called our country the Dominion of Canada. They understood that our Creator God has dominion over all of His creation, and their prayer was this prayer – that God would have dominion over Canada from sea to sea to sea. On this Canada Day, let’s pray that this will be so and God will be glorified across our country.
These have been words from the heart.
