In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.

Establishing Our Steps

While Toronto’s CN Tower no longer holds the world record for the tallest building in the world, it still holds the record for the world’s tallest metal staircase. It takes 1,176 steps to reach the main deck and 2,579 steps to reach the SkyPad level. On average climbers take about half an hour to complete the climb. The record for the fastest climb is held by Brendan Keenoy, who reportedly managed the feat in seven minutes and 52 seconds in 1989.

I had a clumsy week this past summer. I’m not usually clumsy, but in one week I tripped three times and landed on the ground each time. No damage done except to my ego. I decided I needed to pay more attention to where I was walking. If this is necessary physically, it is even more so spiritually. Wise King Solomon understood this. He wrote this in Proverbs 16: “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” You may have made lots of plans for 2022. With the pandemic causing most plans to be put on hold for the past couple of years, many people are longing to be able to make plans to visit loved ones and travel a bit. If we’ve learned anything over the past two years, it’s that there is no certainty in the plans we make. As Scottish poet Robbie Burns once said “the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” The good news is that Jesus has a plan for our lives, and nothing will ever stand in the way of His plan working its way out perfectly. Throughout this year, trust His plan completely and you won’t trip up.

These have been words from the heart.
