Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come here to me.” They came to him, and he repaired the altar of the Lord, which had been torn down.
1 Kings 18:30 NIV
You might be surprised to know that the closest European country to Canada is Denmark. before 2022 it would have been France as they own two little islands called St. Pierre and Miquelon. Two tiny little islands right off the coast of Newfoundland. These are French territories and as such part of France. But there’s another place that is even closer – Hans Island. t’s a nothing little piece of rock that is smack dab in the middle between Canada and Greenland. It is owned by both Canada and Denmark.
God has a task for each one of us to do. One of the blessings of being a follower of Christ is that we discover our purpose. The Lord can do anything He wants, of course – He is all-powerful. But He chooses to use us, having gifted us just the way He wants. Then He calls us to put those gifts into use for His glory. During the time of Elijah the prophet, the worship of Baal had grown under the rule of King Ahab and Jezebel. The altars used for the worship of Yahweh had fallen into misuse. In the famous battle between Elijah and the prophets of Baal, Elijah says this in 1 Kings 18:30: “Then Elijah said to all the people, ‘Come here to me.’ They came to him, and he repaired the altar of the Lord, which had been torn down.” God had raised up Elijah to call the people of Israel back to the Lord. He called them to come and help him and they did. God is calling each of us to come alongside Him to build His Kingdom. Take time today to use your gifts for the glory of God.
These have been words from the heart.
