In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.

Secure Steps

According to Parks Canada, what you wear on a hike in a National Park can make a huge difference to the success and enjoyment of the hike. They say “Wear proper footwear and try to keep your feet dry. Your footwear should provide support, grip, protection, and should be comfortable and appropriate for the trail you choose. Even on easy trails you might find yourself walking on slippery surfaces like roots, wet grass or rocks. Leave the flip flops for the beach!”

We have all planned things that didn’t pan out in the end. It has happened to us a couple of times lately – illness got in the way of two planned trips. It was disappointing – both times – but it reminded us that ultimately God is in control. If we had been able to take our second trip, we would have been smack in the middle of a hurricane! We were grateful to the Lord that He knows better than we do. In Proverbs 16:9, wise King Solomon wrote: “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” Followers of Jesus are brought into a fresh new relationship with God through faith. We are then called to walk in obedience to Jesus, with the promise that He will walk with us, providing all we need to fulfill His will for our lives. He does have a perfect plan for each of us, and our desire must be to consistently walk in accordance to that plan. He always knows best. So, when the plans you make don’t work out, don’t be disappointed. God has better plans, more secure plans. And in trusting His plans, we find peace and safety.

These have been words from the heart.
