Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
James 1:17 NIV
Every Gift
You might be surprised to hear what some of the most popular gifts are that foreign tourists buy in Canada to take home to friends and family. Without a doubt, the moose, bear and beaver have earned their status as symbols of Canada, especially when it comes to stuffed animal souvenirs. And for some reason – nobody knows how this got started – these animals often find themselves dressed in the Mounted Police outfits. You will find them at almost every tourist gift shop.

We all love to receive a gift, particularly if it is unexpected. It usually comes from someone who loves us, or with whom we have a friendship. Often, they have put some good thought into the gift, or have made it themselves, which makes it even more meaningful. The Bible tells us about the greatest giver of gifts. In fact, it tells us that everything we have is a gift from Him. James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” Our Creator, who is beautifully described here as the Father of the heavenly lights, has given us every good and perfect gift. This isn’t speaking specifically about spiritual gifts, although the Bible clearly teaches us that He does grant those to us. Everything we have that is a blessing to us comes from God Himself. No wonder we are called to be thankful people. God has carefully thought about how He made us and then creates the gifts that fit us perfectly and will be the greatest blessing to us. Take time today to consider the good and perfect gifts He has given you.
These have been words from the heart.
