Words from the Heart for Friday February 22nd, 2019

If you come across a bird’s nest beside the road, either in a tree or on the ground, and the mother is sitting on the young or on the eggs, do not take the mother with the young. You may take the young, but be sure to let the mother go, so that it may go well with you and you may have a long life.

Deuteronomy 22:6-7 (NIV)

God’s Care

When the Right Honourable Roméo LeBlanc became Governor General of Canada, he was determined to thank the thousands of caring people who give so much to their fellow citizens, the unsung heroes who volunteer their time, their efforts and a great deal of their lives to helping others. In April 1996, the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award was created to recognize the fine example set by these special volunteers whose compassion and charitableness are such a part of the Canadian character.

God cares for every part of His creation. He has not simply created the world and then left it to its own devices. He is very much a part of the lives of His people, and overseas the world He has made. As the theologians put it, He is the creator, preserver and governor of all things. Part of His leadership of this planet is calling human beings to rule over His creation and to respect it as He does. And sometimes He gets very specific about how He expects us to rule. Deuteronomy 22:6-7 says, “If you come across a bird’s nest beside the road, either in a tree or on the ground, and the mother is sitting on the young or on the eggs, do not take the mother with the young. You may take the young, but be sure to let the mother go, so that it may go well with you and you may have a long life.” God loves mothers. He knows that in their role they ensure that the human race has a future. What a God we serve who cares about every little detail of His creation, right down to a bird’s nest.

These have been words from the heart.
