Words from the Heart for Friday February 1st, 2019
The Lord said to Moses: “Tell your brother Aaron that he is not to come whenever he chooses into the Most Holy Place behind the curtain in front of the atonement cover on the ark, or else he will die. For I will appear in the cloud over the atonement cover.”
Leviticus 16:2 (NIV)
I Will Appear
A mysterious disease affecting children in the U.S. has appeared in Canada, doctors reported last October. Dr. Jeremy Friedman, associate pediatrician-in-chief at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto said, “I can confirm that since September, we have certainly seen an increase of patients with muscle weakness who also had a preceding viral illness. These symptoms are typical of acute flaccid paralysis and increases of similar cases have been reported by many other North American pediatric centres.”
Through the people of Israel, God revealed Himself to the world. In contrast to the man-made gods of the nations around them, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was powerful and holy. His holiness separated Him from sinful humankind, so much so that to enter into His presence was an act of suicide. At the same time, God longed for relationship with men and women, and longed for them to come before Him. Before Jesus came, removing our sin and imputing His righteousness, allowing us to enter into the presence of the Lord at any time, God had to arrange times when His people could catch a glimpse of His glory from afar. So He gives these instructions to Moses in Leviticus 16:2: “Tell your brother Aaron that he is not to come whenever he chooses into the Most Holy Place behind the curtain in front of the atonement cover on the ark, or else he will die. For I will appear in the cloud over the atonement cover.” What a blessing it is to live on this side of the Cross. In Christ, we can enter boldly into God’s presence at any time and any place. Have you done so today?
These have been words from the heart.
