Words from the Heart for Friday December 6th, 2019
And giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.
Colossians 1:12 (NIV)
Canadians are best known for their politeness, but did you know that we are one of the happiest countries in the world? The United Nations World Happiness Report 2019 declared Canada as the ninth happiest country out of 156 countries. The 136 page report ranked countries on how happy the population perceives itself to be. Canada fell two spots below from last year’s seventh place.
Someone told me years ago that God loves a cheerful giver, but He will take from a grump. I still smile at that line, because it is true. But the reality is, God much prefers for us to give with a cheerful, joyful heart. So much about how we give to the Lord and others has to do with the attitude of the heart. When we become aware of how much God has given to us in Christ, it is easy for us to be thankful. This is what Paul speaks about in Colossians 1:12: “And giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.” True thanksgiving flows out of a heart that is aware of how blessed it is. And there is no heart more blessed than one that has been redeemed, cleansed from sin and made the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. The heart of a follower of Jesus ought to pour forth praise with great joy. After all, as Paul says here, we are a part of His holy people. How can you express joyful thanks today for all that the Lord has done in your heart and life? Take time to consider that question and then act on your answer.
These have been words from the heart.
