Words from the Heart for Friday December 3rd, 2021
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
Matthew 1:22-23 (NIV)
The period of time a Canadian can stay in the US is based on your unique case and whether you are entering on a visa or not. According to US immigration laws, a Canadian resident who is not a US citizen or a green card holder can stay in the US for no more than 6 months a year. The important thing to note here is that the year doesn’t mean a calendar year, but a 365-day period. Those from outside of Canada are allowed a maximum stay of 90 days.
There is much that is unique about the Christian faith, and one of the most important is that our God is with us. The Advent season has arrived, and over the next few weeks we prepare our hearts for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. The challenge is that it can become so ho hum. We go through this each year at this time. We can reach the point where we take for granted that Jesus was born, that God came to earth. Listen to what Matthew 1:22-23 says “All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: ‘The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’ (which means ‘God with us’).” Living on this side of Jesus’ birth, over 2000 Christmases later, we understand that God stepped into our world. But for the Jews, the arrival of the Messiah was the fulfillment of centuries of longing. In the birth of Jesus, God had finally come to be with His people. No wonder there was such joy in the hearts of those who were there. It still brings joy today.
These have been words from the heart.
