And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

The Greatest

Vincent Chan is a 55-year-old graphic designer and interior decorator from Mississauga who won season five of CBC’s ‘The Great Canadian Baking Show’ in 2021. The win comes with bragging rights for life as Canada’s greatest baker, and the iconic trophy — a glass cake stand with the show title written on top. Chan said “I worked hard, and I did the best I could, but the competition this particular season has been extremely fierce. Anyone could have won this season because the talent was so deep.”

As we approach this time of the year, we often look back over this past year and consider all that we have been through. Another year has come and gone – 2022 will soon be past and we will never experience it again. For some, that is a huge blessing – the year coming to an end has been difficult, marked by loss and pain. Maybe, it has been a year of change – not all change is negative, but it sure can be. Things often come our way that remind us how fleeting life can be. It is why, for the follower of Jesus, we are called to keep our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. In the unchanging Kingdom of God, there are things that never change. Paul writes this in 1 Corinthians 13:13: “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” No matter what happens in the world around us, God consistently pours out these gifts on us. He blesses us with the faith to keep on trusting Him, the hope that we have in Jesus Christ and the love of God.

These have been words from the heart.
