A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”

Isaiah 40:3 NIV

A Voice Crying

Canada is known to have an inordinate number of voice actors. The really big push for using Canadian voice actors for animation came in the 1960s. At that time the big movie studios were closing their animation units, and animation was largely moving to TV. The biggest studios to come out of this were companies like Hanna-Barbera and DePatie-Freleng, who used the Hollywood voice actors. But there were other, small studios hoping to build a reputation and they went a different route, through Canada.

God had the arrival of Jesus planned from before the creation of the world. He also had Jesus’ time here on earth planned. Nothing about Jesus’ life and ministry happened by chance. The arrival of John the Baptist as a prophet, preaching a message of repentance, preparing the hearts of people for the fullness of the message of redemption offered by Jesus, was planned. Another prophet, centuries before, had looked ahead to all of this. In Isaiah 40:3 we read, “A voice of one calling: ‘In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.’” Just as God used John to prepare the hearts of people for the arrival of Jesus, so He prepares hearts today as well. These days we are hearing story after story about how Muslims are having dreams and visions about a man dressed in white and they are told to find the people of the book, as Christians are known, and ask them who the man in white is. God is working right now in the hearts of your non-Christian neighbours and friends, preparing them for you to tell them about Jesus.

These have been words from the heart.
