But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.
Luke 1:30-31 NIV
During 2023 Canada’s population was originally projected to increase by 401,129 people and reach 39,157,531 in the beginning of 2024. However, on June 16 it hit 40 million. The natural increase is expected to be positive, as the number of births will exceed the number of deaths by 141,073. If external migration will remain on the previous year level, the population will be increased by 260,055 due to the migration reasons. Estimates are that there have been 1,163 live births average per day, or 48.45 in an hour throughout 2023.
It is that time of the year again. The world calls this the holiday season, or maybe still the Christmas season. But for the follower of Christ, this Sunday is the beginning of Advent. That word advent means “the arrival of a notable person, thing or event.” We take four weeks to prepare for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. I wish that more Christians would start calling this Advent, and not Christmas. According to the Church calendar, the 12 days of Christmas don’t end on December 25 – they start that day. So, over the next four weeks, we are going to focus on Scripture verses that will help us prepare to celebrate the arrival of Jesus in our world. Here is what Luke 1:30-31 tells us: “But the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favour with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.” All of history hangs on the arrival of Jesus the Christ. The name Jesus means “Jehovah saves.” Jesus’ birth has changed history and the lives of all who have trusted Him by faith.
These have been words from the heart.
