Words from the Heart for Friday December 10th, 2021
“…a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”
Mark 1:3 (NIV)
Prepare the Way
Canada Post gives some good advice online about preparing letters and packages for mailing. It suggests, “Use postage stamps to send your letters, cards and other lightweight papers anywhere in the world. You can calculate how much postage you’ll need and buy stamps online or at your nearest post office. Know which mail size applies to your item to get the right postage rate. Use weight and dimensions to determine whether your mail is standard or oversize. Also, see tips to prepare large mailings for special occasions.”
Whenever a large gathering is planned by a musician, politician or evangelist, they send a planning team ahead to prepare for the event. They are usually detail people who ensure that the smallest aspects are taken care of, and when the musician or speaker arrives, the venue is perfect, the crowd is there and the event goes off without a hitch. The idea of the preparation team was originally God’s idea. Even before sin entered into the world, God had a redemption plan in place, including the one who would come to prepare the hearts of God’s people for the arrival of the Messiah. In speaking of John the Baptist, and quoting the prophet Isaiah, Mark 1:3 says “…a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’” John came to preach a message of repentance, preparing a people for the arrival of Jesus the Messiah, who would offer them forgiveness, redemption and salvation. Now, the Holy Spirit comes to prepare the hearts for the good news of Jesus who still comes to transform the hearts and lives of all who reach out to Him in faith.
These have been words from the heart.
