Words from the Heart for Friday August 31st, 2018
I know the greatness of the Lord— that our Lord is greater than any other god. The Lord does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths.
Psalm 135:5-6 (NLT)
I Know the Greatness of the Lord
What an awesome God we serve. His power is greater than any other power. He outranks all other authorities. He does what He pleases and does not need to ask permission before He acts. Yet, what a great privilege is ours that we can know Him personally and be known by Him.
As the nation’s top Paralympians prepared to compete at the Paralympic Winter Games earlier this year, the Canadian Paralympic Committee, introduced their brand campaign Greatness is Rare: Witness it. The ads highlight just how small a percentage of the Canadian population qualifies to compete at a Paralympic Games. Martin Richard of the Canadian Parlympic Committee said, “Paralympians are extraordinary athletes with unique skills and capabilities. Few people know what it feels like to compete on the world stage in sport or win medals for Canada, which makes our athletes truly rare.”
The Bible is very clear that the God of the Bible who has revealed Himself through Jesus Christ isn’t the only god in the world. In fact the Bible speaks often of the gods of the nations around Israel and the idols that man has always crafted and worshipped. What the Bible does say is that the God who created all things is the only living God, the only true God. Psalm 135:5-6 says, “I know the greatness of the Lord— that our Lord is greater than any other god. The Lord does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths.” When these words were written, each of the nations surrounding Israel had their own god or gods. But there is no God like Jehovah. He alone created all things. He alone does whatever pleases Him, throughout all His creation. We, too, know the greatness of our God. Only He can redeem the human heart. Only He can transform this world one life at a time. Do you know the greatness of the Lord through faith?
These have been words from the heart.
