Words from the Heart for Friday August 30th, 2019
“I have heard you,” replied Jeremiah the prophet. “I will certainly pray to the Lord your God as you have requested; I will tell you everything the Lord says and will keep nothing back from you.”
Jeremiah 42:4 (NIV)
Trusting No Matter What
Canadians are generally happy with their news media, and that could be thanks to their trust in the federal government and faith in the country’s economic performance. A Pew Research Center study into global attitudes on media showed out of 38 countries worldwide, Canadians placed in the top 10 in all measures of media satisfaction. 78% of Canadians believe that news media are doing well or somewhat well at reporting the news accurately, and 73% believe Canadian media outlets cover political issues fairly.
Things were not going well for King Zedekiah. The army of the Babylonians were threatening to conquer Jerusalem once again and the king who would not listen to the words of the Lord coming through the prophet Jeremiah suddenly needed the Lord. So he asks Jeremiah to pray on his behalf. Jeremiah 42:4 tells us “’I have heard you,’ replied Jeremiah the prophet. ‘I will certainly pray to the Lord your God as you have requested; I will tell you everything the Lord says and will keep nothing back from you.’” How many of us have met people who only call out to God when they get into trouble. And when God doesn’t answer in the way they want Him to, they are disappointed, or upset. Later, when Jeremiah shared God’s answer with the people of Israel, many rejected his message. How much better to trust God through faith in Jesus Christ, and then trust His word to guide us, no matter what it says to us. Only then will we have the assurance that we are walking in the centre of His will and will have his presence in every circumstance in which we find ourselves.
These have been words from the heart.
