Words from the Heart for Friday August 28th, 2020
And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind.” And it was so.
Genesis 1:24 (NRSV)
Creatures On The Earth
The largest land animal in North America is the wood bison, which can be found in Alberta, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories. Mature males can reach 3.8 m in length, stand 2 m high at the shoulder and can weigh up to 900 kg. It’s believed there were once more than 168,000 wood bison in Canada, but hunting and severe winters have decimated the population. Today the country is home to only about 10,000 of these animals.
The earth is filled with some of the most incredible creatures. There is the majesty of a mountain goat, the strength and power of a horse, the cuteness of a cat and the oddity of a platypus. At the core of each animal is their DNA, that ties all living things together but marks each as a unique individual. It is said that every penguin looks identical to us, but mom and dad penguin know exactly which of the chicks belong to them. Genesis 1:24 tells us this about God’s creative genius: “And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind.” And it was so.” When God created life on earth, He did so perfectly. He created domesticated animals and wild animals. He created those that walk on two legs or four legs, and those that creep along the surface. And He created each kind that they can reproduce generation after generation. The more we know about life on earth, the more it becomes obvious that there was a creative mind behind it all. The God we have come to know through faith in Jesus is behind it all.
These have been words from the heart.
