“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.”

Isaiah 55:1-3 (NIV)

Come to the Waters

Canada is famous all over the world for its breathtaking landscapes and resident wildlife, but its waters are an even greater treasure trove of extraordinary habitats and animals. The Canadian Waters Gallery at Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada in Toronto features 17 exhibits totaling over 665,000 litres of water. The Great Lakes exhibit is over 100,000 litres and the stunning Pacific Kelp is almost 360,000 litres!  Twice a year, the aquarium gives back to Canadian waters by participating in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.

Not much in this life is free. We aren’t used to just being given things. Most of us have to work hard in this world and by so doing we get paid and can then purchase what we need. This is a primary principle of the kingdoms of this world. But it is not how the kingdom of God works. God invites us, through faith in Jesus Christ, to something altogether different. The prophet speaks to this beautifully in Isaiah 55:1-3: “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labour on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.” What God offers you – the gift of eternal life, peace and joy, cannot be bought. It has already been paid for on the cross. In faith, just come to Jesus and accept.

These have been words from the heart.
