Words from the Heart for Friday April 5th, 2019
So Ahab asked Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to fight against Ramoth Gilead?” Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, “Yes. I’ll go with you. My men will go with you. My horses will also go with you.” Jehoshaphat continued, “First ask the Lord for advice.”
1 Kings 22:4-5 (NIRV)

Each one of us has major decisions to make in life, and we are wise to seek good counsel when we do. Godly advice is a great help. But the best advice we can get is not from godly friends, but from God Himself. King Ahab approached Jehoshaphat in the first book of Kings to ask if he would join him against Ramoth Gilead. King Jehosphath had a strong army and was willing to come to the aid of the King of Israel, but listen to the end of the conversation in 1 Kings 22:4-5: “So Ahab asked Jehoshaphat, ‘Will you go with me to fight against Ramoth Gilead?’ Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, ‘Yes. I’ll go with you. My men will go with you. My horses will also go with you.’ Jehoshaphat continued, ‘First ask the Lord for advice.’” Jehoshaphat was willing to send his troops but he wanted to make sure that Ahab had sought the Lord about the battle. It would be no good at all to go to war unless the Lord was with them. As you face decisions today, first ask the Lord for advice.
These have been words from the heart.
