Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10 NIV

The UNESCO Creative Cities Network is a world in itself, with a membership of over 200 cities. These cities place creativity and cultural industries at the heart of their local development plans and actively cooperate with other cities in the Network. Four Canadian cities are part of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network, in four different areas: Montréal, Creative City of Design since 2006, Quebec City, Creative City of Literature since 2017, Toronto, Creative City of Media Arts since 2017, London Ontario, Creative City of Music since 2021.

Back in the 1930s, the head of the US patent office publicly stated that he felt that within just a few years the patent office would be closing its doors because just about everything that could ever be invented had been. Was he ever wrong. Human beings are by nature creative and can’t help but be so. Whether it’s in the arts, sciences, business or any number of other fields, people continue to create new ideas, systems and inventions. If that is the case with human beings, it is so much more so when it comes to the God who created all things. King David knew that only his Creator could create in him what he needed most – a new heart. In Psalm 51:10 he writes: “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” David had just committed sin with Bathsheba and then had her husband murdered. He didn’t need to just be a better person – he needed God to create in him a whole new heart. So do we. Only a new heart will remain steadfast towards God. We all need to pray that God would create a new heart in us.

These have been words from the heart.
