Words from the Heart for Friday April 3rd, 2020
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
John 11:25-26 (NIV)
Do You Believe?
In a 2017 poll, it was discovered that here in Canada, people tend to construct their own image of God, and He is more like a guardian angel than an “old man with a long white beard.” A plurality of almost two out of five Canadians (37%) believe in their own constructed image of God. Only 22% of Canadians believe in the God depicted by their church. On the other hand, a belief in a “force” that connects us to nature, the cosmos, the universe, is one of the strongest rising trends.
Faith is at the heart of Christianity. The Bible tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. Jesus was quite direct when He questioned His followers about faith, particularly faith in Him. In John 11:25-26 we read: “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” Our salvation depends completely on the person of Jesus Christ and what He has done for us on the Cross. Without Him we would be eternally lost. This is the unchangeable truth. But it is only applied to our hearts when we believe it. I love how direct Jesus is here. There is no room for fence sitting. He lays out who He is and what is necessary for us to experience eternal life. And then He pointedly asks the question of the ages – do YOU believe this? Every human being must come to terms with their answer to this question.
These have been words from the heart.
