Words from the Heart for Friday April 19th, 2019
God came to Nathan, saying: “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in.'”
1 Chronicles 17:3-4 (NIV)
Called to Go
During 2017, international tourists made 20.8 million trips of one or more nights to Canada, up 4.4% from 2016 and a new annual record, surpassing the previous record of 20.1 million set in 2002. The number of US tourists rose 3.1% in 2017 to reach 14.3 million, the highest figure since 2005. There were also a record 6.5 million tourists from overseas countries, up 7.2% from 2016. Compared with the previous 2002 record, a greater share of tourists to Canada in 2017 were from countries other than the United States.
Today is Good Friday, the day we remember the death of Jesus Christ, the source of our redemption. Jesus had come with a singular purpose – the greatest purpose of any human being – to be the Saviour of the world. That will never be your role – there is only one Saviour and Jesus is He. But God has a purpose for your life and you will never be fulfilled until you are right there in the centre of God’s will. Such was the calling on the life of a faithful servant of the Lord called Nathan. 1 Chronicles 17:3-4 says, “God came to Nathan, saying: ‘Go and tell my servant David, “This is what the Lord says: You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in.”’’ God’s calling for Nathan was not easy. He had to go to the king and tell him that God had said no to a dream David had. But Nathan, as usual was faithful. Not everything to which God calls us is easy. But His will is always the best, whether easy or not. Be willing to go and do what the Lord calls you to do, just as the Lord Jesus was willing to go to the Cross.
These have been words from the heart.
