Understanding Your Greatness
Greatness. What does greatness mean to you? For many it is measured by money and materials items, and for others it is determined by success and achievements. Greatness, however, is determined by our understanding of who we are, and how that is reflected in our relationship with God and with people.
For many of us, we have been raised on stories from the Bible, of people who have done great things because of their faith in God. With God, Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, David defeated Goliath, the Israelites reclaimed the land of Jericho, and Esther became the Queen of Persia, just to name a few. In all of these stories, these people looked to God for strength and guidance. They did not believe that they were worthy of the work that God had planned for them, but in God they found their greatness.
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
Our true greatness comes when we look at ourselves as God sees us. Too many times, we determine our value and worth based on past failures and circumstances. All of this doubt falls away when we place our trust in God and view ourselves as His children.
Last week we talked about putting our day in God’s hands, as His plans for us are greater than we could ever imagine. When we place our trust in Him, and look to God for guidance, peace and strength, we are giving Him our doubts, worries and fears. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” When we replace fear and doubt with the knowledge that God never gives us anything that we can’t handle, we are trusting Him to use us for His goodness. In finding our greatness, we are sharing His greatness to the world.
You are made in His image. If He is great, greatness is within you. Embrace your relationship with God, and discover the amazing things that he has planned for your life.
