Situated on the equator on Africa's east coast, Kenya is one of Africa's most popular tourist destinations, hailed for its rich cultural and ecological diversity. From afar, Kenya can be seen as a prosperous nation, however, almost half of its population live in extreme poverty1, and the majority of those people are concentrated in northern pastoral regions2, home to the Borana, a sub-ethnic group of the Oromo.
The Borana's history is rich, dating back to the 16th Century when some Ethiopian Oromo groups separated and moved south towards Kenya. Over the centuries, the Borana developed their own unique culture and language, but the majority retained the traditional monotheistic religion; Waaq. Today, Kenya is home to approximately 100,000 Borana people, and an estimated 175,000 more reside in villages along the borders with Ethiopia and Somalia. The need for Christ in the region is greater than ever, as political unrest in Kenya and a growing influence from other religions in neighbouring countries are threatening the Borana. With your help, we can bring the Gospel to them for the first time.
A young Ethiopian pastor living in Kenya with an unfading faith. Pastor Guyo brings years of experience starting churches and is currently undergoing training to further God’s ministry in Kenya.
Pastor Roba brings 12 years of experience sharing the Word of God with traditionalists and other religions in Kenya. He truly is a light, with an optimism rooted deep in his faith in Christ.
Pastor Arero decided to surrender his life to Christ at a young age. His relentless dedication to spreading the Gospel has helped start four churches, and with proper training, he is hoping to bring the Gospel to even more people.
Pastors Guyo, Roba, and Arero are currently training alongside other champions in Kenya to bring the Gospel to the Borana. By God's grace, the new ministry plans to reach the Northern villages of Kenya and neighbouring settlements in Ethiopia. Despite the scarcity they face, our local champions are only asking for two things: Biblical resources and prayers.
Pastor Roba tells us "the people of Kenya, including those who used to be Muslim or traditionalists, are very open to the Gospel."
We are inviting you to join us in this unique opportunity to bring the Gospel to the Borana for the first time. Your support will provide local champions much-needed Biblical resources in their language. The cost to provide a Bible to a single Borana believer is only $5, so your contribution is sure to go a long way!
