God is closer to us than we could ever know. He knows what we need before we even need it, but that does not mean that we do not have to pray to Him. God wants us to call out to Him, and speak to Him without ceasing because He loves talking to His children. We are asked to seek Him to find Him, and we can do that through prayer.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” We are asked to call out to God no matter what we are facing in our day and engage in a spiritual conversation with Him. In prayer and discussion, we can share our most private thoughts, ask for encouragement as we handle difficult situations, and explore the plans that He has for us. It also helps us recognize that we are never alone, even in times when it feels like we are walking in or journey by ourselves.

Jesus regularly spoke with His father and called out to Him no matter the day or time. Mark 1:35 says, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” This is just one instance of many, where Jesus would find a quiet place and talk to God. It is through prayer that He found strength and renewed His spirit.

The Bible is filled with stories of miracles that took place through prayer and faith. Jesus fed the 5000 with five loaves and two fish; Sarah gave birth to Isaac, and Moses prayed to God for strength, encouragement, and help as he led his people out of Egypt, just to name a few. In faith and actively calling out to God, God brought joy, hope, and peace to their hearts and their lives.

God has so much that He wants to share with His children, we just need to ask for Him to show it to us. Prayer is one of the most powerful things that we can do, as we pray for others and ourselves, so continue to pray and call out to Him! God is listening.
