Praying for Rain

Ethiopia is a nation that has had a long and tumultuous history, as it is known as one of the oldest nations in the world and has experienced several wars, famines, droughts and political conflicts. With a population of over 99 million people, its citizens rely heavily on agricultural exports, one of the main products being coffee.

Over the past few months, Ethiopia has been in the news, as a drought has affected over 11 million people in the Oromia region. Ethiopia is prone to drought, as part of the country is comprised of lowlands, but the El Nino has caused one of the worst droughts that they have faced. People are receiving food, medicine, water and additional supplies but more resources are needed in order to help the people of Oromia get through this environmental crisis. The Ethiopian government is working with the United Nations and the World Bank to help those affected by the drought. The United Nations has even gone so far as to request $1.4 billion dollars in emergency funding to help the country get through this difficult time.

Bible League Canada has been working in Ethiopia for years, distributing Bibles to the Oromia region. Ethiopia is constantly in our prayers as we pray for political and economic healing, and for spiritual transformation. Our work in Ethiopia has been incredibly fulfilling as we have been able to see children and men and women embrace God as their Heavenly Father. We pray for the country during this hard time, and for rains to come!
