Sarah is 23 years old and is part of the Children’s Ministry taking place at the Adjumani refugee settlement in Uganda. She is a trained teacher and has opened five centres that are reaching 240 children in the settlement. Sarah works with five other teachers in these centres but only three of them have received any sort of training.
Sarah is inspired by the children and sees them as being salt and light to the world. It is her goal to see the number of believers increase through these children as they help to do God’s work. Since 2013, she has seen 48 children in each centre have their lives changed and transformed because of what she is teaching them.
When Sarah first arrived in Adjumani in January 2013 there was no Children’s Ministry training being done and she felt like there was no hope for the children living in that settlement. She is thankful for the training, support, and materials she has been able to receive through Bible League Canada.
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
