Canada is one of the most influential countries in the world due to its economic stability, political power and the people who make up this great country. Our multicultural society has made Canada unique. Other than the indigenous people, residents from around the world came to form our nation. Although we are diverse, Canada has strong ties with Christianity as for years the Lord’s Prayer was said in schools and at the start of political meetings. Our Parliament buildings convey our Christian background as a nation. The Peace Tower has been inscribed with three verses from the Bible, one of which is Psalm 72:8 that proclaims that God has dominion from the East coast to the West.
Although the scriptures on the Parliament building represent our Christian views as a nation, a study conducted by the Canadian Bible Forum has found that Bible reading and church attendance have declined in Canada since 1996, by 47%. Over the years, less and less people have attended church services and have chosen to not to participate in the spiritual community. Bible League Canada believes that our nation needs to show and be a witness of the love of God to other nations. As Jesus said in John 13:34-35, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
After interviewing 4,500 Canadians, that same study found that most Canadians have given up on the Bible as they feel that it lacks validity, and because they are no longer attending church. We as a church need to show our steadfast love and perseverance for the love of Christ, across the entire body of Christ.
Although Canada is ranked 8th out of 187 countries in the United Nations Development Program, there are still people who are in need of spiritual, emotional and physical transformation. Please pray that families and friends of believers, will be transformed by the love of Christ and that Christians will feel the need to return to church.
Bible League recognizes the needs of Canadians and is hopeful that through sharing God’s Word, we will be able to help people recognize their Creator and their God-given purposes of their lives on earth.
Canada is a very special country. We have grown and become one of the most respected countries in the world. Please keep Canada is your prayers as we work with people to spread God’s Word and His love.
“He shall have dominion also from sea to sea.”
Psalm 72:8 (NKJV)
